1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) instant yeast
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 tablespoon sugar
1 1/4 cups warm water (about 110°F)
1/4 cup olive oil

For the filling

1 pound Italian sausage, casings removed
1 small onion, chopped
1 bell pepper, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes, drained
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried basil
Salt and pepper to taste
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

Prepare the crust

In a big bowl, mix the flour, cornmeal, yeast, salt, and sugar.
Add the warm water and olive oil to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, until it’s smooth and stretchy.
Put the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, until it’s doubled in size.

Prepare the filling

Cook the Italian sausage in a skillet over medium heat until it’s browned and cooked through. Take it out of the skillet and set it aside.
In the same skillet, cook the onion, bell pepper, and garlic until they’re soft.
Put the cooked sausage back in the skillet, along with the diced tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Stir it all together and let it simmer for 5-7 minutes.

Assemble the pizza

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease a 9-inch deep dish pizza pan.
Punch down the risen dough and press it into the prepared pan, making sure to spread it up the sides.
Sprinkle half of the shredded mozzarella cheese over the bottom of the crust.
Spoon the sausage and vegetable mixture over the cheese, spreading it out evenly.
Top with the remaining shredded mozzarella cheese and grated Parmesan cheese.

Bake the pizza

Put the assembled pizza in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Take it out of the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
